Social Skills Training (SST)

Social skills training is group or individual instruction designed to teach learners with ASD ways to appropriately interact with other individuals (peers and adults). Most social skill sessions include instruction on basic concepts, role-playing or practice, and feedback. This is done to help learners with ASD acquire and practice communication, play, or social skills to promote positive interactions with peers.

Social Narratives (SN)

Narratives are a type of "story" that describe social situations in some detail by highlighting relevant cues and offering examples of appropriate responding. Social narratives are individualized according to the learners needs and typically are short, direct, and include pictures or other visual aids.

3

Response Interruption/
Redirection (RIR)

RIR s an evidence-based practice used to decrease
interfering behaviors, primarily those that are repetitive, stereotypical, and/or self-injurious.
RIR often is implemented after a functional behavior assessment (FBA) has been conducted to
identify the function of the interfering behavior
